From Dusk to Dawn
Sergei Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 2 in E minor
Compositions written in E minor are full of emotions, nostalgia, and melancholy but also hope.
Elgar's Cello Concerto was completed at the turn of the century when his musical language was already becoming anachronistic. The failure of the premiere almost completely discouraged Elgar from composing music. Sadly, he could not live to see the real success of the work, but this composition is now considered one of the most important works of the cello repertoire. For Rachmaninov, Symphony No. 1 also meant a failure. However, he wrote Symphony No. 2 twelve years later, at the peak of his career. Despite being condemned by critics for its grandiose melodies, the masterly construction and the music, with its exuberant emotionality, inevitably found their way to the audience. The bell-like closure of the work proclaims that there is a way out of every abyss.
