1 More Chance! – III

Alekszandr Porfirjevics Borogyin: Prince Igor – Overture
Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich: Cello Concerto in E-flat major, Op. 107

István Várdai – cello

Conducted by: Howard Williams

In the history of Hungarian music, some composers wrote specially for the Hungarian audience, and others were already well-known in the international music scene in their lifetime. Similarly, not all Russian composers were soon discovered abroad. This concert will help us on the road to discovery.

The works performed at the concert are imbued with some kind of timelessness and a personal touch. The composers were not guided by the desire to create something new, but the message itself was what mattered. Borodin's overture prepares the Russian epic in such a way that it is lovable, varied and revealing music in its own right. Although Shostakovich "promised" in an interview that the work would be written in three movements, the soloist got so much to "say" that he was eventually given an independent monologue-like movement.

So that music lovers in need of help can attend our concerts held in the Kodály Centre at times and in arrangements most suitable for them, the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra will continue its highly acclaimed 1 More Chance! Series also in the 2024/2025  SECRET Season, which will present a choice of symphonic works from the evening concerts. In this series, people with disabilities or social needs (within an institutional framework) can attend the dress rehearsals of our concerts free of charge. Only groups from institutions can attend these events, as the hall's capacity allows. Should you be a member of an advocacy organisation, please, turn to the chairman of your organisation for more information.

Members of The Hungarian Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted and wheelchair-bound music lovers can also attend our evening concerts free of charge at the seats reserved especially for them.
