Oktet Deseti brat / Tenth Brother Octet, Slovenia
Oktet Deseti Brat, as a band of young boys, had its first performance in May 1980, and started rehearsing a year earlier. This means that the octet celebrated the 40th anniversary of its rich activity four years ago.
The octet sang in almost all of Slovenia, in the republics of the former Yugoslavia, as well as in Italy, Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, Albania, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The octet was also on longer tours, namely once in Australia, twice in North America and four times in South America.
The Deseti Brat Octet is highly regarded among Slovenian emigrants. On one of the South American tours, the writer Ivan Sivec joined the octet, who then described a joint trip through the wonderful hidden corners of Argentina in the book "The Wounded Tree".
The singing repertoire mainly includes Slovenian choral literature from the Renaissance to contemporary composers. Of course, the singers are also not unfamiliar with the songs of other countries. The octet cultivates Slovenian folk songs with special love and respect. These are songs from the extremely rich treasury of a nation of two million. Octet Deseti Brat is one of the most important singing groups that are trying to ensure that the national song does not disappear into oblivion.
The octet has recorded 11 cassettes or CDs during its operation so far. He recorded some of his concerts for television, and also participated in various television shows. Likewise, the octet's song is often heard on the radio. There are also quite a few recordings of the performances on YouTube and in the archive of RTV Ljubljana.
Octet Deseti Brat also sang for the best tenor Luciano Pavarotti during his visit to Slovenia.
In 2005, the octet won the gold medal at the competition in Lindenholzhausen, Germany, in strong international competition.
The octet participated three times in the largest South American singing festival, Canta pueblo.
There are only two singers left in the octet from the original line-up. Older singers are slowly being replaced by young and fresh voices. These are good prospects that the song of the Tenth Brother octet will not die out so soon.
The artistic director of the octet is Mr. Franc Rizmal.
