Gala Concert on the Feast Day of the City of Pécs
Aaron Copland: Clarinet Concerto
Franz Schubert: Symphony No. 2
First of September: Feast Day of Pécs, the beginning of a new concert season, a new school year and a new time of year. Summer is still here, and even though two-thirds of the year has passed, we still have plenty of it ahead of us. These are all reasons for momentum, for looking forward and also a bit backward. This particular milieu has inspired the concert programme of the Pannon Philharmonic.
Although Mozart's deservedly famous Magic Flute Overture was written in the last months of the composer's life, it is full of joy. Aaron Copland's two-movement Clarinet Concerto is extremely lyrical in one movement, while it is boisterous and jazzy in the next. Schubert's Symphony No. 2 is a fine example of a young artist bonding with the styles of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.
