Schumann Zoomed In
Tóth Péter: Piano Concerto – world premiere
Robert Schumann: Symphony No. 3, "Rhenish"
What is the link between Robert Schumann and Péter Tóth's compositions? What links the "Rhenische" Symphony to the River Rhine? Can a contemporary piece be romantic, and how is music inspired by literature or a chance encounter? These are the questions that this concert attempts to answer.
Schumann’s Manfred is inspired by Byron’s poem, and already in the overture of the incidental music, the composer summed up the most important messages of the drama. József Balog inspired Péter Tóth's Piano Concerto, so it was written in compliance with his tase, and most probably, the pianist is the most competent interpreter of the composition. In conclusion, we can hear Schumann's programme-like symphony, which not only evokes the banks of the Rhine but also alludes to a new beginning and raises new hopes.
