Veronika Harcsa – song
Béla Bartók is the composer of the cycle 15 Hungarian Peasant Songs: in it, the composer provided piano accompaniment to the folk songs he had collected himself. The original work was rearranged for a symphony orchestra by the creative artists of the Modern Art Orchestra (MAO), Kristóf Bacsó, János Ávéd, Gábor Subicz and Kornél Fekete-Kovács. In their endeavour, they did their very best to preserve the songs' original forms, melodies and tones. Just as the orchestra builds a bridge between folk and contemporary art, so does dance give body to the moods and feelings of life reflected by the original folk songs: the creators of the Dezső Fitos Company joined the production in 2023, and they articulate their artistic intentions in the framework of contemporary art while setting off from traditional folk dance. This production revives our folk songs by showing their emotional sumptuousness with the tools of music and dance – so that thanks to the directness of this experience, the audience can also participate in the creation process. The musical content of the concert is imbued with Bartók's legacy, while MAO brings us a certain Eastern-Central European vibe straight from their homeland.
The concert presenting the album received an Artisjus Award in the category of Pop Music Production of the Year in 2019, and the album received a Fonogram Award in the category of Hungarian Jazz Album of the Year in the same year.
