Young Talents with Maestro Varga
Ádám Balogh and the Liszt Academy Symphony Orchestra
Frank Martin: Concerto for seven wind instruments, timpani, percussion, and string orchestra
Darius Milhaud: The Ox on the Roof (Le Boeuf sur le Toit)
In the first part of this concert, we can glimpse a married couple's life. Bartók's last complete composition is his Piano Concerto No. 3, dedicated to his wife, Ditta Pásztory. The work is a kind of musical testament, which integrates lots of characteristic elements of Bartók’s oeuvre: familiarity with the past, the importance of folk music, the central role of rhythm and music-historical continuity and progress. In its ″Adagio regligioso″ movement, we can also witness how a composer who is not at all known for his religious sentiments looks to transcendence in the shadow of death. Following this piece, the audience can relish a unique concerto by one of Bartók’s contemporaries, the Swiss Frank Martin, placing seven wind instruments, percussion and a string ensemble in a singular light. As a conclusion, the French Darius Milhaud’s ballet music is performed, inspired by, besides the French influences from the turn of the century, the master's experiences made in Brazil. It was initially composed as the background music for Chaplin's movies.
This concert takes place in cooperation between the Pannon Philharmonic and the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Budapest.
