Chinese Philharmonic Orchestra
Guo Wenjing: “Chou Kong Shan” – Bamboo Flute Concerto
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major
Alexander Borodin: Polovtsian Dances
Beethoven’s 250th birthday will be celebrated throughout the world in 2020 by numerous concerts honouring the great composer. Performing the first concert of the Beethoven year to the audience in Pécs is the Chinese Philharmonic Orchestra invited to our city by the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra. Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major is performed by the exceptionally talented pianist starlet, Serena Wang. The concert also features Guo Wenjing’s Bamboo Flute Concerto performed by Wei Sijun playing this special instrument.
The Chinese Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in Beijing in May 2000. Since then, the orchestra has come a long way in professional and artistic terms earning wide critical acclaim both nationally and internationally. The orchestra reflects all the power and energy characterising China with regard to cultural renewal and a rapid economic development as well. As one of the youngest and most dynamic symphony orchestras, they serve as an example with their professionalism for many other ensembles in their country. In the past 14 years they have performed more premieres than any other Chinese orchestras and have developed their very own performance style throughout their diverse artistic activity.
