The final season pass concert of the 2019-2020 concert season falls on the 100-year anniversary of the Trianon peace treaty. In commemoration, a new composition commissioned by the Pannon Philharmonic, the Trianon Cantata by Levente Gyöngyösi of Cluj, will debut with text by András Visky the Transylvanian writer, dramaturg, and the Cluj National Hungarian Theatre’s artistic vice-president. While the first half of the night is for remembrance and mourning, the second is for resolution. One of Tibor Bogányi’s not so secret favorite composers is Anton Bruckner, so he’s also presumably eager to conduct one of the Austrian composer’s most well-known works, the Te Deum. According to the title page of its first edition the composition, created between 1881 and 1884, was written for choir, solo singers, orchestra and optionally, the organ. Gustav Mahler, Bruckner’s good friend, crossed this passage out in his own copy, and wrote the following instead: “for angel tongues, God-searching, tortured hearts and souls purified by fire.”
