Stage Door IV.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Horn Quintet in E-flat major, K. 407
Johannes Brahms: String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 51/2
Three big classics, Piazzolla, Mozart, Brahms… Isn’t this kind of overkill? The answer lies - as it always does - with the audience. In any event, as well-known as Brahms’s a minor severity and Mozart’s musical humour and easiness, so tightly is Piazzolla’s name bound to tango. The latter could also be considered the Johann Strauss of the 20th century, but with the tango instead of the waltz. Throughout the program, we will hear a popular and iconic piece from each of the three composers, each sure to entrance listeners in the given writer’s world.
The Pannon Philharmonic’s most earnest program series, Stage Door, is celebrating its third year. The Kodaly Center’s Zoltán Kocsis hall gives the chamber performances an intimate atmosphere as the orchestra’s musicians play an arm’s reach away from their audience. The program is made up of the musicians’ favourite pieces performed by various chamber formations, giving rise to singularities both in the instrumental combinations and in the choice of compositions themselves. The concert begins at 19:00 on Thursday and can be reached through the Kodaly Center’s stage door.
