Stage Door I.
Franz Schubert: String Quartet No. 14 in D minor ‘Death and the Maiden’, D810, 1st and 2nd Movement
Peter Warlock: Capriol Suite
Johannes Brahms: Horn Trio in E-flat major, Op. 40
The Pannon Philharmonic’s most earnest program series, Stage Door, is celebrating its third year. The Kodaly Center’s Zoltán Kocsis hall gives the chamber performances an intimate atmosphere as the orchestra’s musicians play an arm’s reach away from their audience. The program is made up of the musicians’ favourite pieces performed by various chamber formations, giving rise to singularities both in the instrumental combinations and in the choice of compositions themselves. The concert begins at 19:00 on Thursday and can be reached through the Kodaly Center’s stage door.
If we talk about chamber music, Schubert and Brahms quickly come to mind. They are the central figures in Vienesse romantic chamber music and deservingly, the genre’s most famous representatives. This was the thought process of the program’s creators as well when they featured Schubert’s famous string quartet and Brahms’ unique violin-horn-piano trio in the program. As the program goes on, however, the audience will experience a much broader trip through time and space: Kerry Turner’s composition for 5 horns tells the story of the composer’s trip to Africa, while Peter Warlock’s suite immerses the audience in the world of renaissance dance.
