Are there still polymath composers, or has music composition become an elitist and scholarly art? Who are the most notable composers outside of the Western tradition, that are writing music in Africa or Asia? Can we hear their music in concert repertoires in Hungary? This night will answer all of these questions in the most exciting way possible. Waheed Alkhan, a Bahrain-born composer who studied in Cairo, first acquired degrees in piano and the oboe, next in folk music, and last but not least in IT. Today he considers himself a businessman, manager, and a musician, and now, he will present himself as a new composer. This September, he will premiere his composition, The Return, for the first time on stage in Pécs. The piece marries folk-inspired world music and Middle Eastern motifs, bringing the drama and energy of a film soundtrack. Join us to find out what The Return is all about.
The concert is a co-production of the Bahraini ISA Cultural Center, SHIFF (Seven Hills International Film Festival) and the Pannon Philharmonic.
